Tongue to Tongue: Provoking Critical Dialogues Among Queer Women of Color

September 7th - 9th, 2007
The Village, 1125 North McCadden Place
Los Angeles, CA 90038-1212

Tongue to Tongue is a three-day long dialogue among queer women of color which will feature workshops, lectures, visual art, film, performances and a space where dialogues can emerge into action in our various communities through proposals for continued organizing and solidarity building.

A little background:

The initial idea to organize a Queer Women of Color (QWOC) social change event in Los Angeles came about during the International Meeting of the 2006 Marcha Lésbica in México City. For three years, the Mexico City Marcha Lésbica has been a transnational event that attracts queer, lesbian, and bisexual women from Latin America, the United States and Canada.

The Mexico City Lesbian March is an explicitly radical and feminist political gathering and is the largest public action of its kind to be held in Latin America. As the organizing of such an event takes a tremendous amount of energy and resources the organizing committee of the Marcha Lésbica posed the possibility of the March taking place in another location—Los Angeles.

As the Marcha has historically been a radical response to the political and cultural climate within which lesbianas live their daily lives, we have decided to organize an event that speaks to ours. We are calling all radical, feminist and queer women of color and trans-people of color to come together to dialogue, speak out and take to the streets of LA!!!
